THAMES BOROUGH AFFAIRS

THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MAYOR'S TRIBUTE TO COUNCIL [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Thursday Three members of the Thames Borough Council, Messrs. C. J. Garland, H. R. Bush and A. Garrett, were elected at the council meeting last evening to the Advisory Committee with the Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor, to act with the commissioner in borough matters. Mr. C. S. Donovan, president of the Chamber of Commerce, who was nominated by a large section of the business community as their representative on the committee, was accepted by the council. All names will be forwarded to the Department of Internal Affairs and gazetted when the commissioner takes office. The Mayor said that there was not one member of the council whom he would not be glad to have with him on the committee. He appreciated the loyal help and co-operation which he had received from them all in endeavouring to solve the borough's problems. He thought that even when the Advisory Committee was appointed there would still be other committees needed to carry on. Mr. Ensor congratulated the chairman and members of the various committees of the council on their endeavours. They all had had an exceptionally hard time trying to improve the borough's position, and he considered nobody could have done better. He proposed before the final meeting to ask the town clerk to prepare a report showing the work the council had done.
