LEAGUE OF NATIONS
MODEL ASSEMBLY HELD GATHERING AT UNIVERSITY A practical demonstration of the work of tho League of Nations was afforded the. public last evening, when a model assembly was presented at tho University College Hall by the International Relations Club of the college, assisted by the Auckland branch of the League of Nations Union. Tho presentation, which was based upon the gathering at Geneva last year, was tho first to bo held in Auckland.
Tho principal subjects discussed were disarmament and tho economic crisis, tho parts of the delegates to tho conference being taken by students and others interested in Iho movement. Tho interest with which the gathering listened to tho speeches of the " delegates" was most marked. A noto of novelty was introduced into tho proceedings in that, as in tho case of the actual conference, somo of tho speeches were mado in tho delegate's native tongue. Theso were tho addresses on behalf of Japan, China and Germany. They were afterwards read in English by an " interpreter."
Those who delivered addresses were:— Miss J. Mays, delcgato for Denmark; Mr. E. P. Ho slam, British Empire delegate; Mr. 'T. Fitzpatrick, French delegate*; Mr. T. K. Donner, German delegate; Mr. F. W. Robertson, Italian delegate; Mr. E. Kurosawa, .Inpancso delegate; Mr. Chau, Chinese delegate; and Mr. M. G. Sullivan, delcgato for Spain.
