ONEHUNGA SUCCESSFUL HIGH SCORING GAME A good attendance at Blandford Park on Saturday witnessed a fast and interesting contost botween Onehunga and Tliistlo, the former taking the points in a high-scoring game. Neither side could claim any decided advantage in the first five minutes, the ball being sent about determinedly by tho respective defences. The first goal came to Thistle a few minutes lator, a strong offensive resulting in a melee in the Onehunga area, where Williamson secured to net in quick time. The pace increased and Onehunga, in a shock raid, went right through the Thistle defence, a nicely-placed centre from Scott finding Woodlmll on the spot to save. Both defences felt the strain of several attacks and Onehunga was the first to fail. Faulty clearances let W>H' arnson through to net from fairly close range. A pretty movement started by McLeay saw the ball go out to Gill, on to Scott and come back for McLeay to pierce an unbalanced defence and score. At the interval the score was:—Thistle, 2; Onehunga. 2. _ Thistle commenced tho second half in much more finished style and fully deserved a fine goal which came soon after. A transfer from the half-line saw AVoods racing determinedly to t.tko the ball on tho run. He outmanoeuvred two backs and centred perfectly for Williamson to cap off a very attractive move with a good shot. Stung to retaliation the ever-dangerous Onehunga van combined in pleasing fashion, and a faltering defence let Scott through to score from a difficult angle. Tho football proved .of a hijrh etandard, flashing passes and incisive offensives provoking great enthusiasm. Onehunga forged ahead for the first time when a vigorous attack promoted by Scott gave Huston the opportunity to net. Scott added another goal a few minutes later. Thistle exerted itself desperately to reduce the deficit and! E. Williams scored after a brisk engagement in the Onehunga area. The closing stctges were hard fought, but Onehunga managed to hold its lead, the final flcore boir.e Onehunga, 5: Thistle, i Mr. A. Firth was referee.

NORTH SHORE TOO STRONG

BRIGHT GAME WITH PONSONBY In a game characterised by bright play by tho North Shore forwards, Ponsonby was defeated at Devonport after a dogged, uphill fight. Early success favoured North Shore, scintillating forward work started by a good pass from Gerrard, resulting in Jerrim crossing tci Elwell, who scored from close range. The scene of activities was changing swiftly. North Shore beiing tho moro incisive in its movements. A strong counter by Ponsonby gave Mnlholland a fine opportunity from lOyda. out. but lie lofted the ball well over the top of the bar. A weak clearance by Watson after a long shot from Corbett saw Ponsonby fortunate to escape .trouble. Grant was worKing hard for Ponsonby at centrehalf, but had weak forward support. Forrester showed improvement and had Smith well extended with two 6nap shots. Pretty play by BlacTtie and Elwell paved the way for North Shore's next goal, Leonard securing.. to net with a powerful ground shot. Ponsonby was aggressive in the closin? stages of the spell, but North Shore s solid defence, aided by weak shooting on the part of tho attackers, prevented any result. Diamond and Swales both had a number of good opportunities, but failed to register. The score at the spell was:—North Shore. 2; Ponsonby, 0. Innes replaced Swales on tho Ponsonby right wing when tho teams lined up for the second spell. Coining away nicely the North Shore forwards showed determination and method in making for goal. Elwell and Blackift, under constant feeding from Mamie and Leonard, made repeated progress on the right, ono particularly promising combined effort failing through offside. A flashing shot from Elwell was fortunately saved by tho Ponsonby goalkeeper after he had failerl to sight the ball owing to the sun. Innes and Forrester led an attack at the other end, but, although the ball rolled dangerous] v near the North Shore goal, there was no Ponsonby forward sufficiently resourceful to add the finishing touch. Fast following up by Elwell provided North Shore's third goal, tho North Shore forward netting after Watson had fumbled. Blackie added two more goals in quick succession after forceful individual play. Over the closing stages Ponaonby was piven ft little moro scope nnd Mulholland and Forrester both.scored. The final score W33: —North Shore, 5; Ponsonby, 2. Mr. N. Bach was referee.

A DRAWN CONTEST

GLEN INNES AND TRAMUREWA An even and interesting contest resulted when Glon Innca and Tramurewa mot at Walker Park, the game resulting in a draw. The match opened briskly, both teams wasting no time in making for goal. Glen Innes was the more prominent in a series of raids which kept Batty alert. _ Glaicter sprinted promisingly on the right and worked in close, but was well stopped by Batty. Then Tramurewa went to the other mid, Chatham and Donaldson moving with speed fend thrust. The Stofro brothers stemmed the onslaught, however. Both teams figured alternately in an offensive role in the subsequent exchanges, but their defences wore carrying out their tasks with effect and judgment. There was no score at the interval.

An injury received earlier in the game prevented Adams from taking his place on tho Glen Innes left wing when tho second spell opened. Tramurewa was tho first; to figure in an offensive rolo, a fast attack ending in a penalty being awarded, which was successfully taken. This reverse was the signal for a prolonged siege by the Glen Innes forwards on the Tramurewa goali Good work by Simpson and Batty was all that kept tho invadois out. A. Welch was successful in catching Batty out, of position, however, and headed a good goal. Somo exciting exchanges in which both teams figured prominently followed until tho end, the final score being:— Tramurewa, 1; Glon Innes. 1. Mr. A. J. Gaily was referee.

The play was fluctuntinc: at a fast pace and New Accord evened the soove as a result of a swift counter which caught the opposition unpropared. A penalty was given usainst Y.M.C.A. and Munro scored. YM C A. went immediately to the attack and a fine pass to Kay on tho left flank let the wing go through for a good goal. The interval came with tho score:— Y.M.C.A.. 2; Now Accord. 1. Play was of a spasmodic nature on resuming, the plnyers taking some time _to settle down. During a New Accord offensive another penalty was awarded against Y.M.C.A. and Munro again scored. ihe New Accord team exerted itself alter this in an attempt to take the lead, but was well held by the opposition. After a short period of midfield activities. Y.M.C.A. took a firm grip of tho exchanges Ihe New Accord defence fought back well, however, and it was somo time before Humphreys added a further goal for Y.M.C.A.
