FISH TRADE DISPUTE

CONCILIATION HEARING A dispute concerning the fish trade employees other than fishermen was heard before Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, yesterday. The employers asked for a further reduction in wages and for the employment of females, in view of the possibility of the sardine industry being commenced in Auckland. She wrapping and packing of smoked fish for export was another reason put forward for the employment of women. The application was made by Sanford, Ltd., and 25 other employers. There was a general discussion about the state of the trade and the position of the industry as a whole, and the proceedings were adjourned until next Tuesday. The dispute in regard to the ture of rattan and wickerware will be heard to-day before the Conciliation Commissioner.
