THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE DECIDED UPWARD TREND The upward movement continued in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and a substantial volume of business was completed at improved levels. The market for Government loans was steady but quiet, neither buyers nor sellers showing a great deal of interest. Late rates were realised for 1936 per cent bonds at £99 2s 6d and for 193 d per cent stock at £95. Advances were general in banks, and considerably firmer rates for Commercials of Australia were confirmed in sales at 15s 3d and 15s 4d, a rise of 4d at the higher price. Subsequent inquiry at 15s 5d was nor satisfied. New Zealands changed hands unaltered at 48s, with the market slightly firmer at the close. New South Wales were again vainly sought at £27 ss. while Unions were taken twice at £7 Bs, compared with the last business at £7 6s on the Melbourne register. Insurance commanded firmer support, interest being centred in the four New Zealand companies. New Zealands were secured unaltered at 42s 9d. For Standards buyers offered 44s 6d ex div., but no supplies were available. Other sections reflected an improved tone. Rates for Goldsbrough-Morts were lifted a penny on sale at 25s 7d, but later sold at the previous level of 25s 6d. Inquiry for Loan and Mercantiles was renewed £2 higher at £42 without attracting holders. Coals remained quiet anu Auckland Gas were steady. A rather better range of inquiry was evident in shipping. In breweries offers tor New Zealands improved Is 3d to 28s 9d, ai|d sellers came into the market at 29s 6d. Better support was accorded a number of leading industrial issues. A rise of Is was registered m Bycrofts, which had sale at 31s. Heniy Jones shaded 3d in dealing at 30s 9d and Now Zealand Refrigeratings, contributing, were released 2£d lower at 4s sd. Union Soaps advanced Is on sale at 245. Firmer conditions also existed in the mining division. A marked appreciation of 2s 3d took place in Blackwaters, which sold at 15s 3d. Golden Dawns moved up 3d in two transactions at 5s 3d. for Mount Lyells was lifted 6d to 21s 9d, attracting a selling quotation of <Ws ou. Dealing also took place in Golden Points and Waihis at current rates.
