FINANCIAL SUPPORT ! | TRADES UNION CONGRESS ATTACK ON THE GOVERNMENT (Received September 6, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 5 Mr. J. Bromley, in his presidential address at the opening of the conference of the Trades Union Congress at Newcastle, said they could not stand aside from the Lancashire cotton strike. He hoped their? organised movement would be able to render their comrades valuable assistance. The conference agreed to contribute £IOOO to the unions engaged in the dispute. Mr. Bromley bitterly attacked the Government, which, he said, had prosecuted a policy of in every department of public life. Any success achieved at Ottawa would be only of a temporary character.^ The organised workers of Britain, said Mr. Bromley, would bitterly resent any discrimination against Russia, " a friendly Power with which we have so much sympathy." Still more abject was the failure to cope with unemployment, which problem could only be solved by bold, drastic action with a shorter working yeek and without a reduction in wages. The conference will sit all this week.
