UNEMPLOYED PROBLEM

AIDING/ SEASONAL WORKERS MEASURE OF RELIEF . DEFINED [BY TErJiGItAPH-f-PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday A scheme by which the Unemployment Board plans to give relief to seasonal workers hj»s now been completed. The principle is that tho maximum measure of relief during the off period shall be such that when added to a worker's earnings for the working season it shall make a total not greater than £26 above the full measure of relief the worker might have gained iiad he bren wholly engaged on relief for the whole year. For instance, the maximum amount earned on relief works by a single man, plus £26, would be £65. If a single man earned £7B over an eight-month period as a seasonal worker, he would receive nothing by way of relief. A married man with no children would receive £6" by way of relief, a married man with one child £l9, a married man with two children £32, and a married man with three or more children £45. Owing to the difficulty of establishing their earnings, seasonal workers will bo required to secure confirmation of thoir earnings from the freezing company or other employer. |
