PENWOMEN'S LEAGUE

Tho activities of the Women's Institute movement throughout the Empire were outlined by Mrs. S. V. Irwin, president of the Auckland Federation, at a meeting of the PenwOmen's League on Friday afternoon. The speaker said the movement had completely revolutionised the back blocks, whero at one time women's interests had been so often limited to the milking pail and to housework. The fact that the movement was non-sectarian and non-political was useful in breaking up tho many feuds that wore inseparable from small-town life aud was of special service fo women who were popularly supposed to be "on the shelf." The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by the president, Mrs. CarrRollett, who presided.
