OKARITO WASH-UP NEARLY 290 Z. IN 110 HOURS The Okarito Five Mile Beach Gold Dredging Company, Limited, which is operating in South Westland, reports a wash-up of 28oz. 17dwt. for 110 hours' dredging. OPERATIONS AT COLVILLE TRIAL CRUSHINGS OF ORE Tho Long Trail! Gold Mining Company, Limited (Colville), reports as follows upon operations to August 27:—The battery is now nearly completed and a trial run will take place in about 10 days' time. A road has been constructed from (he low level south-east block to the battery and a road is also in progress to connect the low level of the north-west block. On the low level south-east block, driving toward the shoot of ore discovered by McNeil and party has been expedited by. the employment of an additional shift and the face has been advanced 25ft. for the week. The width of the reef during the course of driving has varied from 2ft. to 6ft., and when examined on August 26 was 3ft. wide. Assays- from the winze and the face of the low level tunnel continue to carry values in accordance with the previous crushing;., which returned 520z. for 13 tons of general ore. The quantity of ore at gvasis ready for transport to the battery approximates 100 ton 3. During the progress of road work two new leaders have been discovered. Two drives and one stope have been in progress in the Red Trail mine (Colville). Thirty-two tons of ore have been won and trenteci by ordinary battery amalgamation, shovring 75 per cent extraction and yielding 48oz. of melted gold, valued at £2lO. The width of the reef is from 2ft. <to 2ft. 6in. and values are being maintained in all faces. REPORTS OF MANAGERS Golconda (Thames). -During the week the chamber in the shaft has been completed and the. necessary flatsheets, etc., put in position. A sump about five feet in depth was also cut. We opened out for the crosscut to intersect the ree»s system and advanced : seven feet. The country is of a good description in the face. Talisman Dubbo {Karangahake).Stoping was continued at .the Dubbo level on the i'ootwall reef, a fair grade of quartz being broken. The new make of quartz on -the hangingwall shows fine rold occasionally,- and is fair grade ore, little work having been done so tar here.
