JERSEY COW'S YIELD
BUTTER-FAT PRODUCTION STATEMENTS DISPUTED Records in butter-fat production claimed on behalf of the Taranaki four-year-old Jersey cow Woodlands Felicie, which were made in a telegram from New Plymouth published on Saturday, are challenged by Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, secretary of the Friesian Breeders' Association, in a letter to the Hehald. Mr, Kalaugher states that the claim that Woodlands Felicie, with 1220.891b. of butter-fat holds the World's record for her age for any breed is not correct, the Canadian Friesian four-year-old Manor Beets Bettina, having an official record of 12511b. of butter-fat. The statement that Woodlands Felicie is the third highest producer in the British Empire is also disputed, Mr. Kalaugher quoting' returns from five Canadian Friesians which eclipse that of the Taranaki cow. Another statement that Woodlands Felicie has broken the previous New Zealand four-year-old record by 4001b. should be narrowed to tlio New Zealand Jersey four-year-old record. Finally, Mr. Kalaugher says that the record of Mclba 15th, tho Australian Shorthorn cow, was 16141b., not 15161b., as telegraphed.
