AMBUSH IN SAHARA
FRENCH FORCE ATTACKED SERIOUS CASUALTY LIST (Received August 28. 5.5 p.m.) f PARIS. Aug. 27 Restless tribesmen ambushed a French camel detachment in the Western Sahara and six officers and 50 native soldiers were killed. The officers killed included Lieutenant Patrick MacMahon, a grandson of the famous French marshal of that name. Marshal MacMahon, Duke of Magenta (1808-1893) was President of France 1873-79. He distinguished himself in the Italian campaign of 1859, when he won the battle of Magenta. For this he received his marshal's baton and dukedom.
