WAIPA DEFEATS HAMILTON GAMES PLAYED FOR PEACE CUP Several representative Rugby games were played in tho various country centres on Saturday. The following results were forwarded by correspondents of the Hekald: Hamilton.—Tho Waipa representatives were rather fortunate in defeating Hamilton by 9 points to 6 after a closely-fought match at Rugby Park. Although Hamilton held a territorial advantage practically throughout tho game, little separated the two teams oil the run of play. Faulty passing lost Hamilton several good opportunities, while many promising movements were nipped in tlie bud by the resolute tackling ot the opposing rearguard. The superiority at the Hamilton forwards handicapped the pla> oi the Waipa team. The first .half-hour 8 play was uneventful, Waipa being kept on defence for the greater part of the PeriodTho Hamilton backs secured in midfield, Paiker on the wing outpacing the opposition to score near the posts. A nnmite later W. Cassidy set up another Hamilton rearguard movement, handing to Cotter, who sent out a long pass to Parkei. The last-named passed infield for Patteison, to dive over the line. Lash opened . Waipa s scoring account with a penalty kick ' lom well out. Half-hearted tackling by the Hamilton backs let Meredith through, but he lost possession at the corner when nearly over and with R. Jackson in support. Shortly afterwards a magnificent drop-kick by Jackson from the line struck the bar. A minute before tho interval Wynyarct scored for the visitors, following a forward scramble on the line, making tho scoie G all. Hamilton maintained the pressure in tbe opening stages of the second spell, but could make little impression on Waipa s sound defensive work. Although the home backs had more than their share of the ball, they could do little more .than keep play in the visitors' territory. Lash notched tne deciding points for Waipa ten minutes before the bell by kicking a fine penalty goal, the final score being:—Waipa, 9; Hamilton, G. Matamata. —Matamata defeated Thames in a Peace Cup challenge match, after one ot the hardest and fastest games seen at Bedford Park for many seasons. lhameß was much the heavier side, but lacked tlio speed and dash of the homo team, which i gave a, very different exhibition from that displayed against Waipa the previous week.
