WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Horsham Downs.—At a meeting of the institute some original recipes were brought forward by the roll-call, "A Quickly-made Pudding." Mrs. H. H. Upson demonstrated how to make children's hats, and several patterns were sold to augment the funds.
Matakana.—A demonstration of how to make scones was given by Mrs. Elliot at a meeting of the institute. Mrs. Elliot afterwards judged the competitions. An enjoyable play-reading, entitled "A Mischief Maker," was staged by several of the members. An exhibition of articles made from flour bags was afterwards sent to the poor. Netherton.—Mrs. W. J. Broad presided at the. monthly meeting. A demonstration of the carding and spinning of wool was given by Mrs. Jaegar, of Kaihere, and was'very much appreciated by the members and visitors from the Paeroa Institute.
