TAURANGA HARBOUR
PROPOSAL FOR RECLAMATION
MOUNT MAUNGANUI WHARF [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDS'!! TAURANGA, Tuesday A letter from the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, was received at a meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board yesterday suggesting that the board should consider providing relief work by, constructing a sea wall from Frazer's Point to Ilarloy's Point to reclaim about 3000 acres. Ho also staled that a smaller area of, perhaps, 200 acres at the Apata railway station was very suitable for reclamation. The board referred the matter to the Local Committee to investigate and report. A deputation of residents of Mount Maungauui waited on tiie board asking for the erection of a wharf at the end of Park Avenue, north of the Public Works Department's wharf, which is now being dismantled. Tho deputation stated that, timber from tho old wharf could bo used. The wharf would serve the majority of residents and would result in a saving of much of tho time taken at present, to travel to tho wharf in Pilot Bay. The harbourmaster presented a plan of proposed improvements to the Pilot Bay ■wharf at an estimated cost of from £250 to £3OO. Tho board decided that the Local Committee, with the harbourmaster, prepare a scheme for submission t,o a meeting of tho board in regard to the request of the deputation, and, if necessary, a special meeting be held.
