LOSS ON YEAR'S TRADING

NO DIVIDEND PAYMENT

A loss of £1290 on the year's trading is disclosed in the annual report and balance-sheet of Grey and Menzies, Limited, aerated water manufacturers, for tiie year ended June 30. The loss is written off against £1387 brought in from Uio previous year, leaving a credit in the profit and loss account, after provision for interest, bad debts, depreciation, etc., of £97. The directors recommend that fliis amount should bo carried forward. The retiring directors, Messrs. T. H. Barstow and J. W. Ryan, offer themselves for re-election.

THE CITY MARKETS APPLE VALUES FIRMER NO REDUCTION IN EGG PRICES After being stationary for a week, prices for most varieties of apples advanced a further 6d a case at tho Auckland City Markets yesterday. Pears remained dull of sale, but rates for Keiffeis firmed Is a case at 4s to ss. California!! grapefruit brought up to 45s a case. Rates for oranges were unaltered, but mandarins and lemons went for lower prices than at Friday's auction. A shipment of Australian fruit arrived yesterday, but only a small portion of it was offered. In tho field produce section the comparatively high prices obtained on Friday owing to frosts earlier in the -week were not fully sustained. Cabbage and cauliflower both dropped appreciably, at Is to 4s 6d, and 2s 6d to 4s a sack respectively. Most other vegetables also were in greater supply. Values for onions, however, advanced about 2s a cwt. at up to 21s. Although larger quantities of eggs are coming forward, prices have not yet fallen. APPLE MARKET STEADY

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 13, from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, London Tallow. —Poor demand at auction. Of 652 casks offered 80 were sold. Present spot quotations are: Mutton, fmo, 235; fair to good, 21s to 22s 6d; dark to dull, 18s to 19s; beef, sweet and/or mixed, 22s 6d to 245; fair to good, 19s 6d to 22s 6d; dark to dull, 17s 6d to 18s 6d; mixed, fair to good, 19s 6d to 21s 6d; dark to dull, 17s 6d to 18s 6d: cut, etc., 16s 6d to 18s. Hemp.—Tho Manila market remains quiet but firm. "K" grade for AugustOctober shipment sold at £l7, and for October-December shipment £l7 10s. August-October shipment now quoted £l6 15s. The sisal market is firm. Closing values No. 1 fair average quality for August-October shipment, £ls 5s to £ls 10s. Tho New Zealand market is unchanged.
