TRANSPORT BOARD
METHOD OF ELECTION
MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL'S VIEWS
The suggestion that thp Auckland Transport Board electoral district should be declared one constituency instead of three as at present was opposed by the Mount Albert Borough Council at its meeting last evening. Under the existing law six of the ten members of the board are chosen by electors of the city and the remaining members are elected in the suburban districts, which are divided into two constituencies. *
Jt was suggested that Mount Albert and Mount Eden should be made separate constituencies to enable each borough to be directly, represented. It was decided to support the proposal that t-he Local Elections and Polls Act, 1925, should be amended to permit a local body to decide upon the method of voting, it being contended that the system of marking ballot papers with a cross was sometimes more applicable than the present method of deleting the names of candidates.
