BLIND MAN'S TRAGIC DEATH
FALL OF 55 FEET INTO MOAT A young blind man, Edward Francis Slaughter, was found dead at the bottom of the outer moat at the Western Heights, Dover, recently. The body was discovered by a messenger attached to the Royal Engineers at a part of the moat where the drop is about 55ft. Slaughter, who had been blind for many years, lived at the Old South Front Barracks, • Western Heights. It is supposed that he had lost his bearings and stumbled over the edge of the moat. He was 24 years old, and was well known in Dover as a piano tuner. He was accustomed to walk about the streets quite safely with a stick to test his direction, and usually found his way without difficulty to any part of ttfe^town.
