LEYS INSTITUTE DEBATE

OTTAWA CONFERENCE ISSUES The Leys Institute Literary and Debating Union held a debate' 011 Thursday evening on the subject, "That the Ottawa Conference Must Provo Futile." Mr. J. T. C'aslcy, the opening speaker for the affirmative, stressed the importance of Britain's overseas investments and said that the growth of secondary industries and the bearing of recognised trade treaties were paramount issues likely to jeopardise any definito scheme brought forward at Ottawa. Mr. <T. 0. Black, for the negative, held that the tribunal of Imperial statesmen must evolve a plan of benefit to all and lay iho foundation of economic rehabilitation. On a vote by the audience the affirmative team was declared the winner. The Leys Institute team to meet the Marist Old Boys in the Atliatiaeum Cup contest on -August 11 was announced as Messrs. F. W. Castle, G. G. Grant and K. L. Slyfield.
