HOUSE THEFTS ALLEGED
YOUNG MAN PLEADS GUILTY ANOTHER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL The pursuit by a detective of one of two young men appearing on two charges of breaking, entering and tbeft, was related before Mr. W. R. McKcan, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Charles Somerville Vincent, bootmaker, aged 24, and Thomas Henry Mclntyrc, labourer, aged 22, were charged with entering tlie house of Andrew Murray, 1 aritni Drive, Orakei, on or about June 27, and stealing clothing, jewellery and £1 5s in money, to tbo total value of £sl ss, and with entering the house of ErnestWalter Armstrong, St. Heliers Bay, on June 15, and s'.ealing £2 15 s in money, jewellery and other articles, to tho total value of £lO. Martha Shergold, second-hand dealer, of 51 Victoria Street West, said the accused Vincent had sold her an overcoat for 10s. About three weeks later Detective Slater was in the shop when Vincent called and asked for a parcel. The detective asked whether Vincent was the young man who sold her the overcoat, "and when witness said ho was, Vincent ran from the shop. Detective Slater said he overtook Vincent 40yds. along Albeit Street. Tho accused denied selling the overcoat. Detective Hunt said Vincent informed liim that it was Mclntyrc who entered Mr. Murray's house. Mclntyrc, when interviewed, was frank with witness, but said Vincent accompanied him when the houso was entered. Mclntyrc pleaded guilty to both charges and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. Vincet)t pleaded nob guilty and was committed for trial, bail being refused.
