COLLECTION OF RATES
THE INSTALMENT SYSTEM SUGGESTION AT PAPAKURA A suggestion to institute a system of collecting rales by instalments was made at the last meeting of the Papakura Town Board. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee for report. Mr. H. C. Baulf said, like all other bodies, the board was experiencing some difficulty in collecting all the rates, and he thought it was time to appoint a collector on a commission basis to try to secure some of the amounts outstanding. It was no use in the present crisis to attempt to force payment, he said, but many would be glad to pay a few shillings a week. To introduce the system would not only bo good business, but would also give employment to a local man. The collector, of course, would not have arbitrary powers. Current rates could also be collected in the same way.
