VALUE OF ADVERTISING
BREWERY COMPANY'S POLICY INCREASE IN SALES FOLLOWS The great value of advertising in the present difficult times was pointed out by Mr. H. Reimers, chairman of directors of Dominion Breweries, Limited, when the expenditure of the company under this head was criticised by a shareholder at the annual meeting yesterday. "Advertising is the very life-blood of any concern, particularly at a time like tho present," said Mr. Reimers. "It was thought that during the past year expenditure in this direction might be curtailed, but it was found impossible to do so if the company's sales were to be maintained. Any concern which advertises and keeps on advertising will increase its sales. It is like fuel for a railway engine." A shareholder said he had been particularly impressed with the company's advertising and he.considered it had been very judiciously carried out. "We are bound to receive the benefit of our advertising as soon as conditions brighten," said another shareholder, who complimented the directors on their policy. "I am confident that, had the publicity not been so great, the large increase m sales during the past year would not have been brought about." A director, Mr. W. B. Brittain. said that one of the largest breweries in England had recently increased its advertising expenditure by many thousands of pounds, and the expansion of sales had been the most gratifying in the trade.
