ACTIVITIES IN DUNEDIN USEFUL WORK BY CLINIC REPORT ON RESEARCHES [l?y TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN. Thursday A meeting of the Otago and Southland division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign was held in the Town Hall to-day, and was presided over by the chairman, Sir Louis Barnett. Since the campaign was first instituted in Otago and Southland in November, 1929, the gratifying sum of £24,400 has been subscribed by residents of Otago and Southland. No further appeal for funds is contemplated in the meantime, as the money now in hand is quite satisfactory for present needs. A full statement of the financial position of the local division was made and approved by the meeting. A report was submitted by Dr. Dath explaining the work of the local consultation clinic, which is becoming increasingly useful in earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment. Special stress was laid on the importance of prompt notification as shown by records of attacking the disease in its early stages. A report dealing with his work was submitted by Dr. Begg, who is conducting in Dunedin researches which he classified under three headings: Research into the nature of cancer, research for the. diagnostic basis of cancer, and research into treatment. Sir Louis Barnett was re-elected chairman of the division.
