CHAMPION GOLFER

MISS TOLHURST IN ACTION Taking advantage of an invitation extended by the Titirangi Ladies' Golf Club, Miss Susan Tolhurst, the Australian lady golf champion, who is returning to Australia by the Maunganui to-day, competed in a friendly four-ball best-ball match play contest at New Lynn yesterday. Partnered by Miss- E. Culling,, of Middlemore, Miss Tolhurst had for, her opponents Mrs. T. . W. Hosking and Mrs. . R. L. Wilson, of the Titirangi Ladies' Club, the last-named* pait - prdfVmif' W&J cessful by one up. 7 An interested gallery followed ■ the players ■ around, but it was obvious that Miss Tolhurst, who had not used her clubs for nine weeks previous to yesterday's match, was not in her . best form. Heavy rain of the past few days had left • the course in a state not conducive to good golf, a handicap which, combined with lack of practice, made her task a difficult one. The Titirangi players were three up at the lltli, after which Miss Tolhurst showed improved form to assist in reducing the leeway. Appreciative reference was made bv the visitor to the qualities and lay-out of tha Titirangi course, Miss Tolhurst being particularly impressed by the formation of the smaller holes. She expressed the desire to return at some future date, when, she hoped, she would be . able to ifive > . glimpse of her best-golf.
