TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
NEW ISSUE IN SEPTEMBER OLD BOOKS OUT OF DATE Auckland's worn telephone directories which havo clone service since October of last year, and in most cases are in a dilapidated condition, must serve for eome time yet. The directories are printed in Wellington, and .it is understood by local officials of the Post and Telegraph Department that the new issue will bo ready for distribution some time in September. Formerly ihe directories were issued at half-yearly periods, and under that system a new book of telephone numbers would havo appeared in April of this year. However, as an economy measure tho department decided to issue the books yearly instead of half-yearly, with the result that there has been no new issue since last October. Complaint has been made by subscribers that they have been inconvenienced- by being deprived of this part of the- telephone service for which they arc called upon to pay. The greatest hardship is suffered by those who have become subscribers since the printing of itho last directory, and whose numbers are thereforo unlisted. It understood that it, is proposed to return to the halfyearly issue, but in any case almost a year will have elapsed before-the new ■ book-. appears in- September. ' .'•< •
