BREAKDOWN OF FERRY
ACCIDENT TO BOILER SMALL DELAY OCCURS A ' ■ A breakdown caused by a mishap to a boiler occurred on the Devonport Steam Ferry Company's passenger vessel Kestrel yesterday afternoon. The Kestrel had to be towed to the feny tee by the Auckland Harbour Board's tug T» Awbina, soma delay in the handling of the passenger traffic at 5 o'clock resulting. The accident occurred about 4.30 o'clock, the Kestrel having left Birkenhead for thev city and being a fair distance on its journey. Clouds of steam were created as a consequence of a blowout, and these were observed from the wharves on the city side of the harbour. The company's vehicular ferry Sparrowhawk stood by the Kestrel, which had lost power through the escape of steam, and several passengers were taken off. It was quickly seen that .the" incident was not serious, no material damage being done. The Te Awhina left Queen's Wharf to go to the Kestrel's aid, and towed the ferry to the city shortly after 5 o'clock. Repair work was soon commenced, and the vessel is expected to be in commission this morning. Although delay resulted, the Ngoiro was brought into service, and no difficulty was experienced in coping with th# heavy evening traffic from the city.
