YACHT RACING
SHALIMAR CHANGES HANDS BY SriNDRIFt. The races held fortnightly in St. Mary's Bay boat harbour by llio Ponsonby Model Yacht Club have become very popular with boat owners and the •general public. Among the models racing last week-end was the America, a fivefooter with a 10ft. mast. Another craft had the distinction of being 45 years old and, although she was not a prize winner, she proved much faster than a number of the more modern boats. A model designed and, built by Mr. C. J. (Pollings is expected to mako its appearance at an early dale. • Mr. W. Rodgers, of Ponsonby, lias purchased the 14ft. T class boat Shalimar from a Coromandel yachtsman. Shalimar was built by Mr. Rodgers a few seasons ago and won many races. She was afterwards sold to Mr. C. Francis, who also raced her successfully, and later sold her to a resident of *Cr.roniandc'i. Shalimar will be given a thorough overhaul and will be a frequent competitor in several of the local clubs next season. Messrs. F. W. Jeffers (commodore) and 11. Howell (vice-commodore and treasurer) have been elected life members of the Akarana Yacht Club. This club is 36 years old, and has bestowed the honour of lifo membership on ten of its members. The Trevic Shield, won by Kilty, representing the Akarana Yacht Club, will be presented to the club at the Takapuna Boating Club's distribution of prizes this evening. The Manukau Cruising Club will hold its annual meeting next Monday evening. The Victoria Cruising Club has fixed .Wednesday, August 31, for its annual meeting. The Taki puna Boating Club will hold its annual distribution of priz.es and danco in the clubhouse, Bnyswater, this evening. The harbourmaster, Captain 11. II Sergeant, will present I lie prizes. A new 18-footor is being built bv Messrs. C Philpot and N. Hope for their own use. She is of the V-bottom typo and in design is somewhat similar to the Ranni. The Richmond Cruising Club has been granted permission by the Marino Department, to proceed with the enlarging of its clubhouse at Sloan's Beach. The improvements include an additional storey, and a balcony in front of the building. A start has already been made and it is expectod that the alterations will bo completed by the end of August.. 7ho work is being carried out by unemployed members of tho club. The well-known 22-footer Marie has changed hands,'her new owner being Mr. A. Barker. Next season Mario will be moored in Mechanics' Bay, and will race in so vera! of tho local clubs. .
