SUCCESS OF ALL BLACKS ' RECORD IN TEST MATCHES AUCKLAND'S SOUTHERN TOUR The Rugby lest match played at Sydney last' Saturday was the twenty-first lhat has been decided between New Zealand and Australia. Of this number New Zealand has won 14 and Australia •six, the remaining one being drawn. From 1903 to 1929 New Zealand held Ihe honours in test match series. In the latter year the New Zealand team —admittecUy a very weak one—was defeated in. all three games, and thereby lost the J'ashes'' for the first time. Last year there was only one test played, 'that being at Auckland, and • New Zealand won, thus regaining the .'"ashes." One match, however, could probably not be regarded as a thorough test, and for this reason iho scries just concluded was fraught with special interest. The All Blacks have eomo through 'K-ith flying colours, and, what is more to their credit, they have played the liame in such a fine sporting spirit that they were accorded a wonderful farewell at, the .conclusion of the final test- in ISydney last Saturday. ' The All Blacks will conclude their Australian tour with a match against Victoria at Melbourne this afternoon. This will be the second occasion upon whifch a New Zealand team has played in the 'Victorian capital. The 1929 All Blacks defeated Victoria by 25 points to 4. Southern Programme Auckland representative touring team will leave on its southern tour tomorrow night and during au absence of four weeks ..will play seven matches ttll, told—three in the North Island and four in the South. Its progress will be watched vrith the keenest interest by followers of the game here. There are, no .doubt, a few who do not see eye to eye with the sole selector, Mr. F. E. Sutherland, but i he has got together 22 players, from; yrbom a sound'Ttfteen should be drawn. It is a side which should develop with each match and it would not be surprising to see the Aucklanders return home wir.h a very creditable record. Mr. Sutherland himself will accompany the team as manager and. consequently, will be on the Spot to watch the progress of the various members of the team. i Following is the itinerary of the Auckland team on its southern tour:— To-morrow.— Depart for Hastings, via Palmerston North, 1 p.m. Saturday.—Play Hawke's Bay, at Hast- ' iugs. Monday.—Leave Hastings for Carterton. ' Wednesday—Way Wairarapa, at Carter-. too. - August 4.—Leave Carterton for Wellington. . ■ August 6.—Play Wellington, at Wellington. Championship Prospects There will be no senior championship matches for the next three weeks. Pollard Cup games being played during the absence of the Auckland representative team in th.e South. The continuation of the senior championship will be awaited with renewed interest, in view of the fact that the downfall of Grammar last Saturday has had the effect of bringing the leading teams closer together The four' teams at the head of tho championship table are as follows: Grammar, 16; Ponsonby, 15; Manukau, 13; University, 12. With a limited time for getting off the matches it looks practically certain that one of these four teams will ultimately prevail. There is not a great deal of difference between the four', and it would be necessary to know how the draw works out to forecast the. ultimate winner. Teams audi as Marist and Training College are liabje, to upset calculations so far as ihe leaders are concerned. Training College Has now defeated Ponsonby, University- and College Rifles in succession, although the University match was a Pollard Cup game, and not for the championship/ While the Auckland touring team is absent' in the Son'h the second fifteen •will play -representative games against Thames Vnllev and South Auckland at Eden Park. With Bush, Solomon and Corner, Auckland will have three widely-experienced players for these fixtures. Then there is Fletcher, the exManawafu representative, who played a very fine game for Technical Old Boys against Marist last Saturday. His heady display finite bore out tho reputation he «qrifed in the South as being the best back in Manawatu. Mulvihill, Weir or Toiley c<wld fill the five-eighths positions, while Carter', Goodwin, Morgan or Ramsay coald complete the threequarter line. There is plenty of forward material left behind, and so the Auckland B team looks _>• k« n 6 a fairly strong one.
