CHARGE OF ASSAULT
INCIDENT IN RESTAURANT An allegation that ho had assaulted the proprietress of a city restaurant.' was made against Julius George Mattson, aged 49, saw-doctor, in the Police Court yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that on Monday evening accused had a meal in a restaurant arid endeavoured to evade making payment. When the proprietress shut the door to prevent him leaving accused struck her on the side of the face. He was somewhat under the influence of liquor. The polico were sent for and on arrival found accused lying on the floor. "Apparently summary 'justice' had been meted out by someone," added Mr. Ivelly. The magistrate, Mr. W. McKean, imposed a fine of £1 10s and cOßts, 9Sj jn default four days' imprisonment.
