WAIPU GORGE ROAD
IMMEDIATE ACTION URGED t * PROPOSALS OF MOTORISTS A special meeting of the roads and Service committee of the Auckland Automobile Association was held yesterday afternoon to decide what steps should be /taken toward effecting some improvement in the of the Waipu Gorge Road. The present unsatisfactory state of the road has been the subject of numerous complaints received by the association, and a deadlock exists between the "Whangarei County Council and the Public "Works Department regarding the maintenance of this section. " Ili was decided to communicate with the acting-Minister of Public Works, appealing to him to effect a settlement. The association requested that an immediate personal investigation should be made by / the i acting-Minister, as the road was in a very dangerous state. The suggestion was made that the clearing of slips and general maintenance should be carried out by unemployed labour. It was stated that if the Public Works Department laid a / three-inch coat of hard, fine metal over the length of road, the Whangarei County Council would then be prepared to take it over.
