THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND ROUND COMMENCED MANUKAU DEFEATS GRAMMAR The second round of matches in the Auckland Rugby Union's senior championship was commenced on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. The trends were a little on the heavy side. There was a good attendance at Eden Park, where the main attraction w-as the meeting of Manukau and Grammar. In a keenlycontested game Manukau proved too good for the championship leaders, registering three tries, whereas Grammar failed to score. Marist accounted for Technical Old Boys on No. 2 ground, gaining the tipper hand in the later stages of the game. University had a comfortable win over Grafton at the Show Grounds, the winner's backs giving an improved display. Training College scored an easy wip over College Riiles at Noithcole. tho latter team failing to score a single point. Ponsonby defeated Otahuhu at Sturges Park after an interesting match. A passing bout broke down and a loose rush sent play to near Grammar's line. A scrum penalty gave Hea::lewood a ■hot from beyond the twenty-five, but he 'just' missed.
