COST OF TRAVELLING.

The question of arranging for the transport of ministers attending funerals was discussed at the Waikato Diocesan Synod to-day. Tho Kev. C. E. Ncwbould, of To Ivuiti, moved, " That the transport of ministers conducting funerals be provided by those arranging them." Mr. Newbould said that in scattered districts tho cost of clergy attending funerals was a serious ( item for tho parishes. Ho knew of one case where people spent £IOO on a funeral and did not pay the Church one penny. The clergy did not want to bo hard, but they did require that out-of-pocket expenses should be met. Tho Rev. H. Sinclair said ho had travelled from Ngaruawahia to Auckland to conduct a funeral and had to pay his own travelling expenses. Similar experiences were narrated by other clergy. Canon J. L. A. Kayll said the matter was one that could be easily arranged locally. He had conducted hundreds of funerals in Auckland, but had always had transport arranged for him. Mr. G\ Gibson, Okato, said such a resolution X would be a discredit to the Church, and contended that the resolution was tantamount to asking for a fee, and was a contradiction of a resolution passed bv Synod some years ago.
