WAIKATO NOTES.

ACTiViTIES AT TE RAPA.

A.' TINKER'S' USEFUL TEAM.

SEVERAL ''PROMISING NOVICES.

[FROM OUR • OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Tuesday,

After having had a fairly eney time since the Auckland Winter Meeting, King Ford has been put into serious work again by ■J. F. Tutohen. • H® looks all the better for his respite, ajid is in nice shape to be prepared for the Pakuranga Hunt Meeting, where he is to make hie reappearance. Tutehen has also taken up High Commissioner again. ■ High Commissioner has shown promise .jn, liis few starts over hurdles, ,butj lack of stnmina has been against him. J However, he should stay better 1 when more seasoned, and ho should pay his way in the new season.

When Kaliau, another member of Tutchen's team, and a half-brother to the useful Taku Tama, made his debut at tho last meeting at' Te Rapa, he created n good impression by showing up prominently. Considering that it was his first start it was a performance which drew pointed attention to his future prospects. Kalian is now in worlj again with the Pakuranga Hunt Meeting in view, and is acquitting himself nicely. , A Likely Two-year-old. Caliph, a 'fine, big two-year-old colt by, Kilbroney from Abbey Dream, lias been sent by Mr. W, H. Wackrow to J. F. Tutchen to train. Ho is a likely-looking juvenile, who is bred well'enough "to gallop fast.

Senorita, the rising three-year-old filly by Whirlwind, wae, not hurried unduly in lier preparation last autumn, and she should be all the better for nop being overtaxed. She showed a fair amount of speed in the two races sho contested on tho country circuit, and promises to be useful in the new seasou. She has been worked on the road lately, but her preparation is now being advanced. in' earnest, and she should be in great - order for early spring meetings. Ruby Da\Vn- has been spelling nt Okoroire, but'., will rejoin Tutchen's establishment this jSveek. ~Tlie little mare was displaying evidence of greater stamina toward the latter, end of the season, and the coming term should find her even more solid. Valuation is being sent along again by A. Tinker, and he is showing all Ijis old speed. Valuation is down to make a reappearance at the. Pakuranga meeting, and his track work in tho next few weeks will be watched with interest. Persham Improving. PershaTi has improved out of all knowledge since he was added to the list, and the promise he "displayed last spring should bo realised in the coming season. Persham is one of the string Tinker is working in view of the Pakuranga Hunt Meeting, and his ofTorts bo far havo beon distinctly pleasing." Limex. another .of Tinker's team, has filled out n lot sinco she was last raced and appears lo a great deal more robust. She raced prominently on two or three occasions during' tlie season, but it is probablo that the best has yet to bo seeu of her. Brtrascopc. another candidate from Tinker's stable, hoofs a vary bright appearance and is in splendid order to be tuned up •to race at the Pakuranga meeting. Hi 3 .form at the Great Northern Meeting was fair, and' lie should vin races in tho new reason.. . llluminelli lias filled out noticeably lately and seems to bo getting over the babyish habits that ■vers t.somewhat, against her before. She hna a .fair turn of pace, and, properly placed.—ehe should pay her way. Lv'ninary was.taken out to the Waikato Hunt meet on' Saturday, but the idea of ' following tho hounds did not seem to greatly, appeal to him. (Eventually, he became tangled -Vp. with a piece of barbed ' "\vijr ( e on- onff of ' the jumps, cuttinp; ono of liis legs. Although the wound bled a good deal; It' proved nothing 'serious, and Lumiuary i» little the worse for tho mishap.
