J Tho Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting will bo opened at Trentham today, when horses from practically all parts of the Dominion will be competing and some fino should eventuate. The chief even£. will be the Wellington Steeplechase and, although the field of eight is somewhat disappointing, an interesting contest seems assured.

Telegraphing last evening our Wellington correspondent stated that the weather continued fino and although tliero was every indication of a hard frost at Trentham during the night, the track should be in good order, soft on top but nothing like tho customary winter conditions here. Fast Passage and Megaphone galloped yery well yesterday morning. The following horses were likely to be well backed , jn their engagements: — Matai Steeples.—Town Beauty, Royal [Visitor, Okapua. Woburn Hack Handicap.—Azure, Lord Buchan, Merry Peel. Vittoria Hurdles.—Full Measure, Pahu, jßon Eve. Stewards' Handicap.—Lord Val,' Master Anomaly, Tai Ao. Wellington Steeples.—Paris, Master Lu, \Pangolin. / Trentham' Hurdles.—-Cruachan, Full Mark, High Pitch. Whyte Handicap. Fast Passage..
