ILLEGAL STUDS.
Incident in soccer match.
A rather fin usual incident occurred dur- • 'ng an intermediate Soccer match at Petone recently, in which Fetone and * Swifts Clubs were engaged. A player had Wn by an illegal stud in a boot, and the. referee was asked to examine the boots of the opposing side. He did so, and found none of the boots compl'ed with [he rule. This team then asked for the boots of the other team to be examined, , and they were found to be, if anything, *orse than the others. Had the referee ■Complied with the law there would have been no game; but as the teams agreed , to go on the play proceeded hi ment'oning the matter at a meeting ■sf The management committee of the Wellington Association, Mr. G. suggested that there should be a field day for the examination of boots. Mr.-' w. Fraser said he examined the ■, "Cots of"the Wellington team at Otilgo, and found five pairs were not in order, ""ey were all put in order before the ga.me was played. - Mr- F. -O'Connell said he had rarely Men bpys* boots in proper order with the le i?al studs. They did not know what proper studs were like. It was decided that a field day examnation should be made in the near future.
