" DRIVE " CLOTHING SOLD.
ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT.
The theft of fifty-eight pairs of shoes, thirteen pairs of trousers, two suits, fortytwo gramophone records, and other clothing, of a total value of £lO 10s, the property of the Eed Cross Society, was admitted in the Magistrate's Court in Wellington by Thomas Carney, a labourer, aged 58. Detective-Sergeant Tricklebank said that on June 14, tho accused, who was unemployed, called on Mr. Galloway, of the Red Cross, and offered his services in connection with a clothes "drive" which was being carried out by the society. The accused had previously been assisted by the society, arid he offered to assist them voluntarily. He started work on June 18, and between that date and July 6 lie stole the articles -nentioned, selling them at various second-hand shops for £2 10s in all. " I don't think this is a case for probation," said Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in sentencing the accused to one month's imprisonment.
