THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

BUOYANT TONE MAINTAINED. Trading in gilt-edged investments was again the feature of dealing on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when the buoyant tone which has been apparent over the last fortnight was maintained. The keen market for Government loans was indicated in further advances in offers for several issues. With on o exception the higher ruling levels were fully maintained in the business completed. A rise of 17s 6d took place in 1933 5£ per cent, bonds, which were taken at £IOO ss. In 1938 4£ per cent, stock business was recorded 2s 6d higher at £96 2s 6d, and subsequent dealing took place at £96, at which price the demand remained unsatisfied. The 1939 issue had inquiry at the same level, an advance of 5s on the previous day. The February issue of 1937 SJ, per cent, stock was released unchanged at £lOl 2s 6d, and later eased a shade on sale at £lOl, with further supplies forthcoming at the lower rate. Offers closed 2s 6d firmer than those of the previous day at £IOO 17s 6d. Bank shares received steady support, with advanced offers in several cases. New Zealands continued their upward trend with further business at 44s 6d and 44s 9d, a gain of 9d at the higher level. Nationals of New Zealand, Nationals of Australasia, contributing, and Unions had better support, while Commercials of Australia were the only shares to show a weakening on tlie previous day s quotations. Buyers continued to predominate in insurance, which remained very strong. Levels for Standards advanced Is on sale at 41s.

Inquiry was steady in other sections of the market at firm rates. 'I he only business outside of the ruining section was in Colonial Sugars, two parcels of which changed hands at the unaltered price of £4l 15s. In mining Waihis registered a substantial advance with dealing at 15s 2d, followed by two further sales at 15s 3d, an improvement of 3d at the latter price, at which more were available. Grand Junctions also displayed a firmer trend, having sale 2d better at 3s. Okaiitos shaded on recent business in dealing at 9s, and Golden Dawns, which were placed at 5s 6d and 5s 7d, were 5d lower at the top price than the last bus : ness in the middle of June.
