KAWARAU GOLD SCHEME.
LITTLE FALL IN RIVER.
COLD WEATHER CONTINUES.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
DUNEDIN, Tuesday.
Little interest was shown to-day by local miners in gold-seeking on the Kawarau River, which has fallen less than a foot in the gorge since yesterday afternoon. A further fall is anticipated if hard frosts continue, but a fall of 2ft. would be required before un worked ground would be uncovered. The gates of the dam may remain closed after Saturday. Mr. James Ritchie, chairman of directors of the Amalgamated Kawarau Company, and the resident Public Works engineer are to confer on Thursday night on the question of renewing the application to the Minister of Public Works for the closing of the gates for a further week.
The weather is perfect and a succession of frosts would allow Lake Wakatipu to be held'for at least one month.
