SERMON TO TEACHERS.

INFLUENCE IN COMMUNITY.

TRIBUTE TO THEIR WORK. There was a large congregation at a special service for training college students and public school teachers, held in the Mount Eden Presbyterian Church on Sunday, and the college choir of over 60 rendered an anthem. The lessons were read by two students. The minister, the Rev. Leonard H. Hunt, preached, taking as his subject, "The place of the teacher in the life of the nation."

"Leaving aside for the time being the Christian Church, the greatest single factor to-day in developing a healthy national life is undoubtedly the public school," said Mr. Hunt. If scientific advance and moral idealism went hand in hand there was no danger for anybody, but if they were divorced or if one lagged behind the other then nothing but disaster was to be looked for.

"I would like to pay my humble tribute to the high character of all the public school teachers I have met during my ministerial work; and I question if ther« is any country in the world to-dav that has a better all-round staff that we have in our schools in New Zealand," said Mr. Hunt.
