PACES IN NEW ZEALAND.

Ski racing is becoming more and more popular in Australia as bigger crowds are attracted to the snow fields in Victoria and New South Wales. The tourist agencies in both States have done their utmost to popularise the mountain resorts, and their propaganda is now meeting with its reward.

This winter has been a particularly favourable one, and great interest is being shown in the snow sports that are scheduled ts> take place shortly. The first inter-Dominion ski races will take place in New Zealand in September, and Australia has decided to send a team. This will be selected after the national championships at Mount Hotham, m Victoria, in August. At these competitions I [Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania i\vill bo represented. This, will be the first year that the ehamp:ion skiers of the three States Will compete in Australia. The inter-Do-minion races will be another innovation, ihnd within 18 months it is hoped to send a team to Europe to demonstrate that Australian racing technique has improved greatly' 4 during the last few years. Mr. Tom Mitchell, who is regarded as the best skier in Australia, will lead the team that will go to New Zealand. He is one of the two skiers who represeni ed Australia in international racing, and the fact' that he lives just inside the Victorian border will have a considerable bearing on Victoria's chances of winning (be fiirsji Australian championships*
