DISCOVERY DUE TO-DAY.
OVERHAUL AT AUCKLAND.
WHALING RESEARCH WORK. Due afc Auckland from the Antarctic at daybreak to-day, the British survey ship Discovery H. will berth at Central Wharf. The vessel is expected to be in port for about five weeks, during which period she will undergo overhaul and refitting and will replenish her stores. After the work has been completed she will return to the Antarctic, where the scientists on board will resume their whaling research activities.
The Discovery 11. is a steel vessel of 1036 tons, and she is owned by the Government of the Falkland Islands. She was built at Port Glasgow in 1929 by Messrs. Ferguson Bros., and is specially strengthened for navigation in ice. It is nearly three months since the vessel left Capetown on her present voyage, and during that period the only ports called at were Fremantle and Melbourne to replenish supplies.
