THIE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BANKS AND LOANS FIRM. * A steady volume of business was maintained on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, with a continuance of firm rates for Government loans and bank shares, as well as for several oilier leading investments. Inquiry was sustained for practically all Government issues, but few requirements were satisfied. Late rales were realised for 1937 SJ, per cent, February bonds, which were transferred at £IOO 10s, while two transactions were comp'loted in tin •September issno 15s firmer at the same price Tho February 1937 5£ per cent, stock was secured 2s 6d lower at £IOO ss, at which price further supplies were sought. In debentures Now Zealand Breweries were done 8d cheaper at 20s 4d.

All the business in banks was dono at, firmer rates. A rise of 2d was registered in Commercials of Australia, for which 14s 2d was paid. New Zealands gained 9d in two transactions at 'l2s 9d and there was an advance of 4s in Unions, which wore taken at £7 Is. Steady conditions were maintained in insurance), in which two parcels of New Zealands changed hands unaltered at 38s.

The general tone of other sections was unaltered. Interest in Auckland Gas was firm and the contributing issue was placed without movement in price at ,15s. A stronger market existed for Colonial Sugars, which had sale 22s 6d bettei at £4l 17s 6d. British Tobaccos eased 6(1 on sale at 27s 6d, with further supplies available at that price. No change took place in New Zealand Refrigerating (con.) shares, which were done 4s 3d.

Inquiry in mining covered fhc usual range without material alteration. Support for Waihis recovered 2d to 14s 5d and holders were prepared to deal a similar amount- easier at 14s Sd. Blount laells made, a current-price sale, at l<s 2d. leaving the market,, a litlle easier.
