DESCENT TAKES 23 MINUTES

Twenty-three minutes after a young parachutist., Rene Marchenaud, had jumped from an aeroplane at an altitude of 7780 metres (nearly five miles) he landed safely in a field. This is claimed as a \vorld's record jump. Scaled instruments recorded tlio altitude. Marchenaud wore a special breathing mask. The previous record was held by Captain Willy Coppens, V.C., who jumped from a height of four miles at Villa Coublay.
