PINCHBECK.

NAMED AFTER JEWELLER. Pinchbeck is so called after the London jeweller who invented this brassy-looking alloy about 1780. It is untarnishable, and the epithet as used nowadays probably arose from tho fact that pinchbeck is sometimes mistaken for gold. Indeed, during the gold rush many owners of pinchbeck becamo aware of it for the first time.
