CHASE BY FLYING SQUAD.
J6 A woman and a man in evening dress took part in a raid on a costumier's shop in Halkin Street West, Belgrave Square, London, on May 23. A dark saloon car coritaii)>'"" ( ' ; main and a woman and three c companions pulled up outside the shop soon after 2 a.m.
One of the raiders smashed the glass panel of the door, and the thieves were loading costumes arid other articles of clothing into the car when a policeman approached. One 'of the bandits gave the alarm, and they all scrambled into the car, which disappeared rapidly in the direction of Chelsea. The Flying Squad was informed, but no trace of the.raiders was found.
The shop is that of Mile. Mauriac. " As far as I can ascertain about £4OO worth of my stock was stolen," she said. " I do not live at the shop, but I was called by the police about 3 a.m." Another raid, this time on a dressmakers' premises, occurred in Berkeley Square on the same day. A car believed to contain four men drew up outside a shop and the window was smashed. The arrival of the police disturbed the men, who made off at top speed.
