YOUTH STEALS BICYCLES. PROBATION FOR THREE YEARS. iCharges of stealing five bicycles of k to&il valaa of £2l, and a set of sandwich forks valued at ss, were admitted by Rfiymond Leslie Parker, aged lrjj, printer,- in the Police Conrt yesterday. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., was on the Bench. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the bicycles were stolen from city and suburban struts and the forks from a shop in Dominion Road. All the articles were sold to second-hand dealers by accused, xcho used fictitious names. He also prepared false receipts to show that thj cycles were his property. Altogether accused received £3 6s from the dealers. H; had not previously offended. on the suggestion of the chief probation officer. Mr. W. J. Campbell, th> magistrate admitted accused to probation for three years, and directed him to make £5 6s restitution. An order for this return 'of the stolen property to the owners was made. A plea of guilty was entered by Frederick Gould, a young relief worker, when charged with stealing a bicycle valued at £3 10s. It was slated by Mr, K<dly that accused removed the bscycH from New Street, Ponsonbv, where it had been left by th? owner. He had previously been conv'cted of dishonesty. A fine of £5. in default 21 days' innprisonnuer.t, was imposed. A week was allowed' in which to make payment. 'For usinc obscene language in Ilobson Street; on Thursday, Joseph O'Neill, » young man, was fined £2, wiih tin: alternative of seven days in prison, and for drunkenness he was lined ss. A clerk and labourer, Gerald Frank Gilbert Smith, aged 42. was fined £1 10.* for being d'sordcrly while drunk in Kitrangaiiape Road at an early hour on Thursday morning. Default was fixed at three days' imprisonment. Described as a settler. Harold Edward Stanton, aged 50. was charged with fraudulently omitting to account for £.9 10> 6d received on behalf of the Kerikni Picnic Sports Association. The nll-ged offence was stated by the police to have been committed at Kerkcri on April 18. On the application of the police accused was remanded to appear at Whangarei on Tuesday. Bail of £SO was Bllowed. A remand until Monday was granted in ths case of Robert L:slie Claude. a young man, when charged with unlawful carnal knowledge It was stated by the polio? tint the alleged offence was committed in Wai'aki last November. Accused was gr;:in!!ed bail of £2O in hi 3 own reeoghisance, and ordered to report daily to til 8 poSca.
