REMUERA TRAMS DELAYED.
OVERHEAD WIRE BREAKS.
REPAIRS EFFECTED QUICKLY
The tram service from Eemuera to the city was disorganised for some time last evening by the breaking of an overhead cable near Upland Road. No other damage was caused, and, as the power was automatically cut off with the breakage, there was no danger to pedestrians. The cable parted just after an inwardbound car had passed, tho wire falling to the ground behind the tram. About six cars were delayed on the inward run, but the service from the city to Eemuera was maintained, as were the city-Avon-dale and Avondale-city services. Tho breakage occurred at 6.28 and temporary repairs were effected to allow the service to be resumed at 6.55. The renewal of the wire, which had to be replaced for a distance of about 40 yards, occupied two hours.
