EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD.
The following are extracts from the i New Zealand Herald of June 29, g 1882
About noon yesterday a dray bcipn with heavy stones got bogged in Milt Lane at the junction with West Queen Street. The stones had to be thrown out of the cart before the horse could lie released, and these, thoughtlessly enough, were put ou the footpath, effectually blocking it for several hdtirs. Persons passing up and down 011 that side of the street were forced to wade through the mud to the footpath 011 the opposite side.
It is reported that the Egyptians are about to take steps to obtain the posses sion and command of the Suez Canal, and it' is further stated that secret preparations have been made to prevent the,pas sage of ships. In the House of Representatives Mr. Wright gave notice to move: 'llint it is desirable that the railway system extending from the Bluff to Waikari, in the Middle Island, should be placed under a board of directors, and that such board should not be removable at the dis eretion of the Ministry of the day, except, upon resolution passed by this House." Mr. Fulton, in moving that tin' Education Act be amended so as to enable any school committee to introduce Bible-reading without comment in the public schools, subject to a time-taM" and conscience clause, said he was aware the motion would not. be carried, hfit ! 1P moved in the matter' as a question of duty.
The insurance agents do not propose to make any change in premiums wlten the electric light is introduced into private buildings in Auckland, an event, nearer, wo believe, than many anticipate. Insurance companies do not ill'end to make any differentiation in premiums between houses lit by electricity, gas, kerosene oil, or candles.
