HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
SQUALLY, WITH HEAVY SHOWERS
Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— The westerly depression has moved on to tho Dominion, and is centred in the south. Expect unsettled, boisterous conditions, with heavy showers, particularly in western and southern districts. Hail and thunder probable in places near tho west coast, and snow on the higher levels in tho south. Temperatures will become much colder generally. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale at times. Rough seas on tho west coast, and rough in tho Bay of Plenty. Local outlook: Squally, with heavy rain and hail showers, particularly in tho morning and evening. Fine and bright intervals will interveno during the day.

The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A rather intenso depression has moved on to Now Zealand, and this afternoon low centres were located east of East Cape and over CHago. Indications aro for westerly winds, backing soon to south-westerly, moderato to strong generally, and reaching galo force in places. Seas heavy on the West Coast of the North Island; elsewhere rough. In the eastern Tasman Sen, strong south-west winds to gales, with rough to heavy seas. The weather will bo unsettled and squally, with rain in most districts and many heavy falls. Temperatures cold, with snow on the high country.
