The first of a series of old-time dances S*as held at the Tnkapu/ia Boating Clubhouse at Bayswaler on Saturday evening. The hall was decorated with hanging lanterns and painted screens, and downBtairs, .ivliere supper was served, t]io tables wero brightly arranged with bowls ~j{ yellow flowers. The dance music was supplied by Mr. Sinton's orchestra, and Jlr. S. J. Clarke acted as master of 4-ceremonies.
A social evening in honour of the ladies' fommittee which assisted in flic Poppy Pay collections was tendered by the Otahuliu "Returned Soldiers' Club last week. There was a full attendance of b E" the ladies of the committee. An excellent programmo of dancing and cards was Arranged. Song* were given by Miss A. Clarko. Mrs. J. S. Smith and ■ Messrs. A. T. McLaren-and T. Tomes. 'At the supper interval the chairman of the Returned Soldiers' Club, Mr. R. S. Closey, thanked Hie ladies' committee for their- very excellent assistance and the great response in tho collection organised lb- them.
