CAPSIZED OVER BANK.
CAR STRIKES WASHOUT. —V~ DROP OF FIFTEEN FEET.
[from our own correspondent.'] TUAKAU, Saturday
A narrow escape was experienced by Mr. P. Barker, Government fields inspector at Pukokohe, and Mr. L. R. Jordan, manager of tho Pukekohe branch of the Bank of New Zealand, when they were travelling by car on a road at Kaawa, in the Raglan County, about 37 miles from Tuakau. They were travelling through some fairly rough country when the car suddonly encountered a washout on the road, and pitched over a sheer 15ftl drop into over 2ft". of water.
Although suffering from a severe shaking Mr. Barker made his way to the nearest telephono and a break-down van was summoned. When it arrived it was found very difficult to extricate the car, and tho aid of some natives in tho locality had to be enlisted. Tho car was not damaged extensively, except from water, only the two front mudguards and bumper being crumpled and the windshield shattered.
Apart from a severe shaking neither of tho occupants of tho suffered injury.
